Zürich to St. Moritz by Train
St. Moritz sits deep in the Engadin valley, reached from Zürich with a single change in Chur onto the Albula line, one of the most dramatic stretches of railway in the Alps.
The journey
Trains from Zürich HB to St. Moritz run about hourly and take roughly three hours and twenty minutes, with one change in Chur. The second leg, on the Albula line, is the highlight: a UNESCO World Heritage railway of spiral tunnels, viaducts and high alpine scenery.

The change at Chur
Chur is where the fast main-line service ends and the narrower Albula line begins, connections are timed closely, so the change is usually a short, straightforward wait on an adjacent platform.
The Albula line itself
Beyond Chur, the line climbs through a series of spiral tunnels and crosses tall stone viaducts to gain height quickly in a narrow valley, engineering that’s been recognised on the UNESCO World Heritage list in its own right.
Tickets
A Swiss Travel Pass covers the main-line stretch to Chur in full and discounts the Albula line onward to St. Moritz, worth having given how much of this trip runs on the scenic mountain section.
Plan it live
Two legs and a change mean more can go slightly off schedule than on a direct route, particularly on the mountain section where weather can occasionally slow things down. The Swiss Transport app tracks both trains live and shows the connection window at Chur, so the change happens without a scramble.
