Kylin teaches Mandarin Chinese from your first character. It follows the HSK 3.0 syllabus and covers HSK 1 to 3: 1,011 words and 655 characters, with grammar and graded reading. You read the character, hear it spoken, and write it stroke by stroke.

The whole app works offline, and there are no streaks to protect.

HSK 1, 2 and 3, on the syllabus published in November 2025 that takes effect in July 2026. HSK 1 is free in full. HSK 2 and 3 open with Kylin Pro. Higher levels are not in the app today.

English, Vietnamese, Thai, Korean and Indonesian. The lesson text, glosses and mnemonics are written in the language you choose, not translated on the fly. Pick yours the first time you open the app, and change it later in Settings.

No. Install Kylin and start learning immediately, with no sign-up and no email address. The app uses a private, anonymous identifier behind the scenes to back up your progress. You can link an Apple or Google account later if you want your progress to move to a new device.

It is your recall right now, computed from your own review history: how much of the level you would get right if you were tested this minute. It rises as you review and drifts down while you are away, and periodic unscheduled checks keep it honest. That number is the point of the app, and it replaces a streak counter.

Nothing breaks. There is no streak to lose and no penalty screen. Your reviews are rescheduled, the forecast tells you where you actually stand, and the app gives you a plan to get back.

Yes. You trace each character in the right stroke order and the app grades the strokes, with the animation available on demand when you need a reminder. Every character in HSK 1 to 3 has stroke data.

Pinyin fades per character as you master it, from full pinyin, to the tone mark alone, to the character on its own. It is driven by your recall rather than a global switch or a timer. If you already read pinyin when you arrive, tell the app in onboarding and it starts you further along.

Kylin uses a spaced-repetition scheduler (FSRS). Every word, character, tone pair and grammar point is scheduled to come back just before you would forget it. An item leaves the queue when your recall is stable, never because you answered it correctly once.

Tap "Something looks wrong?" on the lesson or review screen and choose the type of problem: translation, pronunciation, audio, mnemonic or typo. The report carries the item, the problem type, an optional note, the app version and your anonymous identifier, with no name or email address. We use these to correct content quickly.

Yes. Every lesson, character, stroke animation and audio clip is inside the app when you install it, and the scheduler runs on your device. Nothing is downloaded while you study.

From the app: open Settings, scroll to the bottom, and tap Delete account, then confirm. This clears your learning data on the device and deletes your account. The action cannot be undone.

The Privacy Policy lists every service the app talks to and what each one receives, including the Firebase services that back up your progress, deliver notifications and report crashes.
