Is NipponGo free?
Yes. The JR Pass calculator, per-leg Suica and JR Pass validity, offline Survival Kit phrasebook, area guides, and bookmarks are all free, with no account required and no limit on how much you save. If you would like to support development, you can leave an optional tip from the settings icon on the Guide tab, under "Support NipponGo."
Does the app work offline?
Yes. All core content (the JR Pass calculator, route guides with Suica and JR Pass validity, the Survival Kit phrasebook, and area guides) works fully offline. No internet connection is required once you have installed the app.
How current are the JR Pass prices and fares?
Fares and JR Pass prices are updated with each app version. We verify them before every release. For the most current official prices, check the JR Pass official site before your trip.
The app says to skip the JR Pass, is that right?
The JR Pass calculator gives an honest recommendation based on your planned routes. After the 2023 JR Pass price increase, the pass is genuinely not worth it for many itineraries. The calculator shows you the math so you can decide. If the calculator says the pass saves money on your specific route, we link to a trusted seller.
Can I request a refund for a tip?
Yes. Refund requests are handled by the App Store or Google Play, not by us. On iOS: open the App Store, tap your profile, then Purchases, find the purchase, and tap Report a Problem. On Android: visit the Google Play Help Center for refund instructions.
How do I delete my saved data?
NipponGo stores everything locally on your device. To delete all data, simply uninstall the app. No data is stored on our servers, so there is nothing to request deletion of on our end.
