NipponGo

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 30, 2026

In brief: NipponGo has no account system; saved guides, bookmarks, and settings stay on your device. The app uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to fix bugs and understand which features are used: device model, OS version, app version, country, in-app events, and crash reports. We do not sell your personal data or share it with data brokers or advertisers. If you choose to leave an optional tip to support development, that purchase is processed entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play, and we never see your payment information.

1. General Information

NipponGo ("the App") is a Japan transit guide for first-time Western visitors, developed and published by IOCODO LLC ("we", "our", "us"). It provides official JR Pass purchase links, per-leg Suica and JR Pass validity on Golden Route itineraries, an offline Survival Kit phrasebook, and curated area guides for Japan's major tourist destinations.

This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed when you use the App and your choices regarding that information.

2. Analytics and Crash Reporting

The App uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC) to help us fix bugs and understand which features are used. This includes device model, OS version, app version, country, in-app events (such as which guides or routes are opened), and crash reports (stack traces and diagnostic data when the App encounters an error). The App also uses Firebase Remote Config to deliver configuration values, such as which app version is current, without collecting personal data.

Google LLC acts as the data processor for these services; see Google's Privacy Policy for details on data handling, retention, and your rights.

Beyond this, the App does not:

Any future change to how NipponGo is monetized, including the addition of advertising, would be described in an update to this policy.

Notifications. If you allow them, the App can receive occasional notifications from us through Firebase Cloud Messaging. They are sent to a topic, meaning one message goes to everyone subscribed to that subject: we store no device token, no per-user record and nothing that would let us send to you specifically. You can turn them off at any time in your device notification settings for NipponGo, and uninstalling the App ends the subscription.

3. Local Data Stored on Your Device

The App uses your device's local storage (iOS UserDefaults / Android SharedPreferences) to remember your preferences and saved content between sessions. This data includes:

This data never leaves your device. It is deleted when you uninstall the App.

4. Optional Tips

NipponGo is free to use, with no account required and no limit on saved bookmarks. If you would like to support ongoing development, the app offers optional one-time tips of varying amounts. Each tip is processed entirely by the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). We do not process payments, see your payment information, or store any transaction details on our servers.

Tips are consumable purchases and are not restored or transferred between devices. No purchase data is sent to IOCODO servers.

5. External Links and Affiliate Partners

The App provides links to third-party travel services such as Airalo eSIMs, GetYourGuide, Klook, SafetyWing, and others. These links may include affiliate parameters that help us earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Clicking these links opens the respective partner's website or app in your browser; we do not transmit any personal data to partners. Each partner's own privacy policy governs how they handle your information once you visit their site.

6. External Content

The App may display content from external sources (such as website previews opened in an in-app browser). These external sites operate under their own privacy policies.

7. Data Sharing and Sale

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with third parties except as required to operate the App, specifically by transmitting data to Firebase and Google services as described in Section 2, or as required by law.

8. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13 and is not designed to collect information that would identify a child. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will delete it.

9. Your Choices

10. Deleting Your Data

NipponGo has no accounts and no user profiles, so there is nothing tied to your name or e-mail to delete. You have two ways to remove data:

You can also stop analytics collection entirely at any time: on Android, turn on "Delete advertising ID" in your Google account settings; on iOS, use Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Tracking.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
