Questions people ask

Frequently asked questions

Which exam do I need to become a German citizen?

The Einbürgerungstest (Leben in Deutschland) and German at level B1, usually proven with the telc or DTZ certificate. Germanio covers both: the full citizenship question bank, and a German course that reaches B1 with the DTZ in its real exam format.

Is Germanio affiliated with BAMF, telc or the Goethe-Institut?

No. Germanio is an independent study app and is not affiliated with the Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge (BAMF), telc gGmbH, g.a.s.t. or the Goethe-Institut. The civic questions come from the public BAMF catalogue, and the exam names are used descriptively, to say which exams the app prepares you for.

Does Germanio work offline?

Yes. The citizenship question bank, the vocabulary, the grammar cards and the DTZ simulations all ship inside the app. Nothing is downloaded while you study.

What if my Bundesland is not shown?

All 16 Länder are covered. Pick yours in the app and its 10 extra questions join the 300 general ones in your practice set and your exam simulation.

Are the translations official?

No. The civic questions are translated into your interface language purely as a study aid. The Einbürgerungstest itself, and the DTZ, are sat in German, and Germanio's German course is what prepares you for that.

How will purchases and refunds work?

A single one-time purchase, no subscription, billed by the Apple App Store or Google Play once the app is live. Refunds will follow the policy of the store you buy from.
