Frequently asked questions

What is Germanio?

Germanio prepares people naturalising in Germany for two things: the Einbürgerungstest (the "Leben in Deutschland" citizenship test) and German at level B1, usually proven with the telc or Deutsch-Test für Zuwanderer (DTZ) certificate. It covers the full citizenship question bank, a German learning path from A1 to B1, and the four DTZ exam sections in their real format with timed simulations.

The whole app works offline once installed.

Which exam does Germanio prepare me for?

The Einbürgerungstest required for German citizenship, and German at level B1 for the naturalisation and integration requirement, sat as the telc Deutsch-Test für Zuwanderer (DTZ) or an equivalent certificate. Germanio does not register you for either exam; check your local Ausländerbehörde or Volkshochschule for how and where to sit them.

Which levels does Germanio cover?

A1 through B1, plus the full DTZ exam format. A1 and the whole citizenship test are free in full. A2 and B1, together with every DTZ task, unlock with a single purchase. Levels above B1 are not in the app today.

Do I need an account?

No. Install Germanio and start learning immediately, with no sign-up and no email address. The app uses a private, anonymous identifier behind the scenes to back up your progress. You can link an Apple or Google account later if you want your progress to move to a new device.

Is Germanio free? How does purchase work?

Level A1 and the entire citizenship question bank are free, with no limit. A single one-time purchase unlocks A2, B1 and every DTZ task. There is no subscription, and the price is shown in the app in your local currency before you buy.

How do I restore my purchase?

Open the upgrade screen in the app and tap Restore purchases. This restores your entitlement using the Apple App Store or Google Play account you originally purchased with.

What languages can I use the app in?

English, Arabic, Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian and Farsi. The instructions and explanations are written in the language you choose. The course content itself stays in German, because that is what you will be tested in, and the citizenship questions are translated into your language purely as a study aid. Pick your language the first time you open the app, and change it later in Settings.

Which Bundesland should I pick, and what if it changes?

Pick the Bundesland (federal state) you live in, or plan to sit the citizenship test in. Its 10 extra questions join the 300 general ones in your practice and your exam simulation. You can change your Bundesland at any time in Settings.

Does Germanio work offline?

Yes. Every citizenship question, word, grammar card, audio clip, DTZ text and exam simulation ships inside the app when you install it. Nothing is downloaded while you study.

Are my speaking recordings private?

Yes. When you record your own voice in the Sprechen (speaking) practice, that recording stays on your device. It is never uploaded to us or to anyone else, and it is used only so you can compare yourself against the model answer. You can delete your recordings at any time in the app.

Are the translations of the citizenship questions official?

No. The citizenship questions are translated into your interface language purely as a study aid. The Einbürgerungstest itself, and the DTZ, are sat in German.

How do the exam simulations work?

The citizenship exam simulation matches the real test: 33 questions, 60 minutes, passed with 17 correct answers. The DTZ simulations cover Hören, Lesen, Schreiben and Sprechen in the real format and score the official way, so B1 is only awarded with B1 in speaking.

Something in a lesson, question or exam text looks wrong. How do I report it?

Use the report option on the lesson or exercise screen and choose the type of problem. The report carries the item, the problem type, an optional note, the app version and your anonymous identifier, with no name or email address. We use these to correct content quickly.

How do I delete my account?

From the app: open Settings, scroll to the Account section at the bottom, and tap Delete account, then confirm. This clears your learning data, recordings and account on the device. The action cannot be undone.

Full instructions, including what to do if you no longer have the app installed, are on the account deletion page.

What data does Germanio use?

The Privacy Policy lists every service the app talks to and what each one receives, including the Firebase services that back up your progress, deliver notifications and report crashes.

How do I report a bug or crash?

Email dev@iocodo.com with:

  • Device model and OS version
  • App version (visible in Settings)
  • What you were doing when it happened
  • Whether it is reproducible
How do refunds work?

Germanio is a free download. If you made the one-time purchase, refunds are handled by the store you purchased through:

Where can I read the policies?

Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
