Advanced asks for a great deal more than Basic: controlled airspace, radio work, navigation and a pass mark of 80 percent. These ten questions are spread across the subject areas the exam weighs most.

1During the walk-around an advanced pilot finds a hairline crack and visible fibre delamination in one carbon fibre motor arm. The aircraft still powers up normally and all motors run. What is the correct course of action?
C. Treat the aircraft as unserviceable, and have the arm repaired according to the manufacturer's instructions before it flies
A composite arm carries the motor's thrust and reaction loads into the airframe, and delamination means the fibre layers are no longer sharing that load, so the arm can fail without further warning under normal vibration. Tape, reduced speed and rebalancing do nothing about a broken load path. The manufacturer's documentation states which repairs an owner may perform and which must go to an authorized repair facility, and that is what decides how this damage is put right.

2How many questions does the Small Advanced exam contain?
C. 50 questions
The Small Advanced exam consists of 50 questions, more than the 35 questions on the Small Basic exam, reflecting its broader scope, which includes controlled airspace and operations near people and aerodromes that Basic does not cover.

3What is an RPAS Safety Assurance declaration?
D. A manufacturer's declaration to Transport Canada that a specific RPA model has been developed and verified to meet the technical requirements for a specific advanced environment, such as operating near people, over people, or in controlled airspace
An RPAS Safety Assurance declaration is submitted by the manufacturer, not the pilot, confirming that a specific aircraft model meets the technical requirements for the advanced environment it is declared for, such as flying near people, over people, or in controlled airspace. A pilot must fly within the limits of what the specific aircraft has actually been declared for, not simply what the pilot's own certificate allows.

4A crew member is rostered onto the last flights of a long survey day and knows from experience that they will be fatigued by then. What does the regulation require?
B. No person may act as a crew member if they are suffering from fatigue, or are likely to suffer from it on duty
Section 901.19 prohibits acting as a crew member while suffering, or likely to suffer, from fatigue, or while otherwise unfit to perform the duties properly. The wording looks forward, so the test is applied when the day is planned rather than only when the person already feels tired, and it covers every crew member, not the pilot alone. Handing the lookout to an observer does not restore a fatigued pilot's capacity to fly the aircraft.
Canadian Aviation Regulations, s. 901.19(1)(a)
5What is a VFR Navigation Chart (VNC) primarily used for?
A. Visual navigation reference showing terrain, obstacles, airspace, and other features relevant to low-level flight
A VFR Navigation Chart depicts terrain, obstacles, aeronautical features, and airspace boundaries at a scale suited to visual, low-level navigation, making it a core reference for RPAS flight planning. It has no role in instrument flight plan filing, shipping lanes, or maintenance records.

6When is a Restricted Operator Certificate - Aeronautical (ROC-A) required for a pilot?
D. Whenever the pilot operates a radio transmitter on aeronautical frequencies, such as to communicate with air traffic services
A ROC-A is required to operate a radio transmitter on aeronautical frequencies, which becomes necessary when a pilot needs to communicate with air traffic services or other aircraft by radio, such as during many Advanced operations near aerodromes or in controlled airspace. It is not required simply to fly an RPAS with no radio communication involved, and it has no weight or age-specific trigger of its own.
Radiocommunication Regulations, s. 33
7A fixed-wing RPA is in a steady climb at a constant airspeed. What is true of the forces acting on it?
D. Thrust exceeds drag by the part of weight acting along the path, and lift is a little less than weight
In a steady climb nothing is accelerating, so the forces still balance, but they balance along and across an inclined flight path rather than along the horizon. Weight now has a component acting backwards along that path, which thrust has to overcome on top of drag, and only the component of weight across the path has to be matched by lift, so lift is slightly less than weight. Lift exceeding weight belongs to the moment the climb is started, not to the steady climb that follows.

8What best characterizes Class A airspace in the Canadian airspace classification system?
A. High-level controlled airspace, from 18,000 feet ASL up to and including FL 600, open only to IFR traffic
Class A airspace is high-level controlled airspace extending from 18,000 feet ASL up to and including flight level 600, and it is restricted to IFR traffic operating under air traffic control. It sits far above where RPAS under 25 kg VLOS operate, so its main relevance to an RPAS pilot is understanding where it begins, not operating within it.
TP 15263E, Section 1, Air Law
9How does 'payload' differ from an RPA's overall operating weight?
B. Payload refers specifically to what the aircraft carries for its mission, such as a camera or sensor, while operating weight is the aircraft's total weight as flown, which includes the payload along with the airframe, battery, and other equipment
Payload specifically refers to what an aircraft carries to accomplish its mission, such as a camera, sensor, or delivery package, while operating weight is the aircraft's total weight as actually flown, which includes that payload together with the airframe, battery, and other fitted equipment. Payload can vary from flight to flight depending on what mission equipment is fitted, unlike a fixed value.

10A METAR contains the group '3SM -RA BR OVC008'. What does this tell a pilot?
D. Visibility 3 statute miles in light rain and mist, with an overcast ceiling at 800 feet
In this group, '3SM' is visibility of 3 statute miles, '-RA' is light rain, 'BR' is mist, and 'OVC008' is an overcast cloud layer with its base at 800 feet AGL, since METAR cloud heights are reported in hundreds of feet. Reading each group correctly, rather than guessing at the whole string, is what lets a pilot extract an accurate picture of conditions.
