Every demonstration in Loquio is an AI-generated video made from a recording in the PopSign ASL corpus (Georgia Tech and DPAN, CC BY 4.0). The movement comes from a Deaf signer, and the person on screen is synthetic.

Before a sign is taught, the sign recognizer has to read its video as that sign. A sign that fails waits, which is why the course grows one sign at a time.

Is Loquio certified by a Deaf organization or a language authority?

No. Loquio is not certified or accredited by anyone. Before a sign is taught, the sign recognizer has to read its demonstration as that sign, and a sign that fails is left out.

Does Loquio teach facial expressions and ASL grammar?

Not the non-manual grammar yet. Facial expressions and eyebrow and mouth movements carry real grammatical meaning in ASL. Loquio teaches vocabulary with the hand alone, and every sign's page in the app says so, rather than simulating a marker it has not measured.

Who is the signer in the videos?

No real person. Each demonstration is an AI-generated video: the movement comes from a recording in the PopSign ASL corpus, and the person on screen is synthetic.

Does the camera upload my video?

No. The sign check runs on your device, and your camera frames are never uploaded. The Privacy Policy lists what Loquio sends: an installation identifier, so that the app receives its settings and shows it is genuine; usage statistics and crash reports, which you can turn off (in the European Economic Area, Canada, Türkiye, Vietnam and Brazil they stay off until you allow them; in the UK, usage statistics do); and, only if you choose to report a sign, the sign id, your note, the course's sign language and the date, with a random identifier.

Is Loquio free?

Yes. The whole course is free, with no account and no sign-in. Your progress is saved on your phone.

Which languages does Loquio support?

The lessons teach American Sign Language. The app and this page are available in English and Spanish.
