Lessons, review timed by memory, and a camera that watches your sign and tells you what to fix.
Loquio has not launched yet. Nothing above is a live link: this page will carry the real store badges the day the app ships.
Every sign in Loquio is the central form measured on recordings of 47 Deaf signers (PopSign ASL, Georgia Tech, CC BY 4.0). Each sign shows its agreement score. A sign below the threshold is not taught.
The measurement is checked leave-one-signer-out: Loquio builds the reference from 46 signers and confirms it still holds for the one left out, in turn, for all 47.
Handshape, place, movement and palm orientation, checked on your phone. When the camera cannot see your hand, Loquio says so instead of guessing.
The check runs on the device. Your camera frames are never uploaded.
Facial expressions and grammar are part of ASL. Loquio teaches vocabulary and says where a facial marker matters; it never simulates one. Loquio is a learning tool, not a certification and not an interpreter.
The whole course is free. Your progress lives on your phone.
No. Loquio is not certified or accredited by anyone. Every sign carries an agreement score measured against 47 Deaf signers from the PopSign ASL corpus, and a sign below the threshold is not published.
Not the non-manual grammar yet. Facial expressions and eyebrow and mouth movements carry real grammatical meaning in ASL. Loquio teaches vocabulary with the hand alone and tells you in the app when a facial marker matters for a sign, rather than simulating a marker it has not measured.
It is how closely the reference sign matches the form measured across the 47 signers in the corpus, checked by leaving each signer out in turn and confirming the reference still holds. A sign that fails that check is not taught.
No. The sign check runs on your device, and your camera frames are never uploaded. The Privacy Policy lists exactly what Loquio does send: an anonymous identifier, and, only if you choose to report a sign, the sign id and your note.
Yes. The whole course is free, with no account and no sign-in. Your progress is saved on your phone.
The lessons teach American Sign Language. The app and this page are available in English and Spanish.
