Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lb ground beef (80% lean)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 4 slices American cheese
- 4 hamburger buns
- 4 lettuce leaves
- 1 tomato, sliced
- 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup dill pickle slices
- Ketchup and yellow mustard, for serving
Steps
- Divide the beef into 4 portions. Shape each one into a patty a little wider than the buns and press a shallow dent in the center. Wash your hands.
- Season both sides of the patties with the salt and pepper.
- Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4 to 5 minutes per side, until cooked through (160 °F inside).
- Lay a slice of cheese on each patty for the last minute.
- Toast the buns, cut side down, in the same pan.
- Build the burgers with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup and mustard.
